Carolina Evelyn Klüft (born February 2, 1983) is a Swedish athlete competing in heptathlon, long jump and pentathlon. She is currently regarded as one of the best female athletes in the world.
Carolina Klüft grew up in Växjö, where her father, mother and three sisters still live. She currently lives in Karlskrona together with her boyfriend Patrik Kristiansson, who is a pole vaulter. She has a mascot representing Eeyore that she carries with her everywhere.
She is renowned for her friendly nature and exuberance when competing.
This makes her very popular amongst fans and she has good comradeship with her fellow athletes.
She is also modest and keeps her career in perspective, taking an active interest in world affairs and sponsoring
children in Africa.
It should be noted that she has sponsored children in Africa and other places long before her stardom,
and has always regarded this as something that the 'private' Carolina does, not the athletics superstar.
She's said: They've told me that they like to play soccer, and I've told them that I like running and jumping.
She's so far failed to mention that she's the best in the world combining running, jumping and throwing ...
When she's not training or competing she is studying globalisation and foreign support at the University of Växjö.
She has currently, as of August 8, 2006, been ranked the number one female pentathlete / heptathlete in the world unbroken since September 16, 2002. Breaking the magic 200 weeks as world number one.
She is one of very few athletes to at some time hold all 5 available international titles, Olympic, World Outdoor, Regional (Europe in her case) Outdoor, World Indoor and Regional Indoor. And at the age of 22 she was the youngest athlete ever to carry all 5.
She is also normally member of the Swedish 4x100 relay team at international competitions, and is part of the team that holds the national record.
Her series to date are amazing:
